Boat care at Salterns

Check – wash – check – report!

Boat use at Salterns has been at an all-time high this year.  We are very proud of what we have achieved as a club and believe that sailing at Salterns has given our children a fantastic outlet during this difficult year.

Please remember that this is a volunteer-led club. The bosuns will do all they can to make sure that the boats are fit to go out on the water, but parents and sailors must help with boat care:

  1. Check that the boats are rigged correctly before sailing (if you’re not sure, scan the QR codes on the kennels)
  2. Wash the boats, sails and the top of the masts down after sailing
  3. Re-check that all the bits that you started the session with are still present and correct
  4. If your child does break something, or you find something is not working, report the damage or issue to the bosuns on [email protected] as soon as possible – so that the team can keep the boats on the water for as long as possible.

Contrary to popular belief, the kennels at Salterns are not magic! There is no Kennel Elf that washes the mud off sails, repairs broken rudders or replaces damaged rigging.  Nor does the dock box have the ability to email the bosuns to inform that two broken Oppie rudders have been put in there, or that a rowing boat has a broken oar and a Tera mast is snapped…
