Junior Committee

The Junior Committee (JC) members are Salterns members normally aged 12 (year 8) and over who have volunteered to take responsibility for running the club.  This is a big commitment but an important one. Children learn best when copying other sailors so these committee members are the best people to help young skippers to learn and enjoy sailing.

Most club session have a member of the JC on duty who will help budding sailors with any questions, take them for rides in Scows, show them how to rig the boats or help them learn to sail other boats.

Most of the Junior Committee members learned to sail at Salterns themselves and have been members since they were 6 or 7 or even came here as babies with their older siblings so know just what a child will need to help them progress.

Many of the Junior Committee take their sailing outside Salterns and participate in local and national events.  Between them they have enormous talent and a wealth of information. Please do ask!

Commodore's welcome

Hi everyone and welcome to Salterns Sailing Club!

My name is Marcus Edwards and I am the 2022 Commodore for this amazing club, in an amazing location. I would like to start by welcoming you all and introducing you to my team.  We are going to be making this year the most action-packed year ever!

When you go to the club I want everyone to expect to be having plenty of fun with organized activities every weekend and in the weekday! Some of these examples is Salterns Saturday, Moth and Tera Racing and Salterns Youth Club. As well as this we are going to be bringing back many charity events to help raise money for a variety of charities. This is important because it shows how much as a club we care for our community.

I have plenty of sailing experience, including competing in world and national championships so believe with my variety of skill sets we can help a child learn how to sail and support them through their Salterns journey. Me and the JC are very approachable so don’t hesitate to ask us if you have any questions or you would like a helping hand with something. This year, we are going to ensure every weekend (and more often in the summer holidays), there will be a Rota of activities for you to take part in with the JC so you can have a fun time learning!

Make sure to be checking on the website and Salterns Sailing Club Facebook account for regular updates and new events!!

I am really looking forward to seeing all of you in the new season to give Salterns the ‘COVID wake-up it deserves!’
