RYA Training Centre
Salterns Sailing Club becomes an RYA Training Centre at the 'Moppy Camps' run for members each year. These are intensive sailing courses where children can work towards the Salterns Pennants and RYA youth dinghy sailing certificates.
Find out more about Moppy Camp here.
In addition, members of the Salterns Junior Committee and parents of Salterns sailors have the opportunity to participate in courses for the RYA Assistant Instructor and RYA Dinghy Instructor qualifications.
RYA Youth Dinghy Sailing
At Salterns Sailing Club members can work towards the RYA youth dinghy sailing syllabus. The RYA junior sailing courses correspond to the Salterns Pennants as follows:
RYA Stage 1 (Salterns Yellow Pennant)
A basic understanding of how a boat sailing, with some experience of steering and handling the boat.
RYA Stage 2 (Salterns Red Pennant)
A range of sailing skills and knowledge to help in becoming a confident sailor.
RYA Stage 3 (Salterns Green Pennant)
Rigging, launching and sailing in any direction. Equivalent to Level 2 in the National Sailing Scheme. At Salterns Sailing Club Green Pennant is taken in a double handed British Moth, therefore children also sail a double handed boat as crew or helm, and solve a variety of problems afloat.
