Sailing courses for beginners
Throughout the season at Salterns Sailing Club there are a number of 'Mini Courses' - these are beginners sailing courses for children aged 6 and above (who haven't yet done a Moppy Camp) and their parents.
Mini courses are the perfect way for you both to learn the basics of sailing under the careful guidance of our lovely Senior Instructor. No previous sailing experience is required.
We play lots of games to help build confidence, promote good techniques and give your little ones the best possible start to sailing. By the end of the session sailors will be able to travel across the wind, turning around and return.
Every child attending will need:
- An adult to get in the water and lend a hand - No experience of sailing necessary, you can learn together. You will need to bring plenty of warm clothes and a buoyancy aid. You can borrow waders from the club.
- Essential kit - a Wetsuit, Spray top, Wet boots, Buoyancy aid, hat and sun cream. Lots of warm spare kit are also vital, even if the weather is beautiful.
- Snacks - playing on the water is exhausting! We will have a short break mid way through the session.
Mini Courses last half a day:
The morning sessions run from 09:00 to 12:00
The afternoon sessions run from 12:30 to 15:30
Please bring sailors in kit ready to go afloat.
