Bronze Fleet Optimist Training

Bronze Fleet is an integral part of the Lymington Optimist Flotilla and is run on Sundays. The aim is to give those who have the ability and the will to race optimists a first class start in familiar waters.

Bronze Fleet touches on all aspects of racing including boat setup, course and strategy. The sessions are fun and relaxed, with both games and races to learn basic racing techniques, build their confidence and hopefully go to their first regatta.

To participate at Bronze Fleet, children must be full member of Salterns Sailing Club and must have achieved their Salterns Red Pennant or RYA stage 2, working towards their Blue Pennant or above. Children are expected to attend the sessions regularly.

In order to participate, Bronze Fleet sailors need a GRP or wooden optimist - not a plastic optimist. The club has two Bronze Fleet GRP optimists which may be used for the first few sessions if your child wishes to try Bronze Fleet before you buy an oppie - you may have to take turns with other sailors.

There are limited places available for those who wish to use the Bronze Fleet Club Optimists but there are generally spaces for children who have their own GRP Oppies.

The club has a rack for private GRP optimists, with limited availability. Apply for a space on the rack through WebCollect.

Bronze Fleet sessions usually require a parent to be Officer of the Day (OOD). Find here the OOD Training Briefing.
