Children In Need 2015

Lets get fundraising!

Salterns Sailing Club has been raising money for the BBC Children In Need Appeal every year for 16 years (so far over £120,000!) and this year we hope to carry on the good work. To do this we need your help!

This year Children In Need at Salterns starts 4.30 pm on Friday 14th November and ends at 4.30 pm on Saturday 15th November.

From the links below you can download a number of forms to help you raise loads of money for this very important charity, which helps children all over the UK lead a happier and safer life.

Disclaimer and Registration Form
The event that really stands out from all the other activities at Salterns is the 24 Hour Sail-a-thon.  Every member can take part in this whether a beginner, an associate or more experienced. Guests are also welcome. To sail EVERYONE must fill out the attached an Registration Form and bring them on the day. Non members and associates should fill out a CinN Disclaimer too.  Depending on your pennant level and/or experience, there are specific times when you can sail:

4.30 pm to Dark: Anyone
Dark to 10.00 pm: RED Pennant and above
10.00 pm to 6.00 am: Current BLUE and GREEN Pennanters only
6.00 am to 9.00 am: Bronze fleet and own oppie sailors
9.00 am to noon: Associates, Full Members and Guests.
Noon to 4.30 pm: EVERYONE – Guests welcome

For safety reasons, parents are responsible for their children at all times and must stay on site with them unless the child is over 14. The privilege of staying for the whole 24 hours and sailing through the night is reserved for current full members who are at least blue pennant. Please contact David Smethurst (djsmethurst@btinternet.com) if you are keen to stay overnight so that he can put you in the timetable.

2. Sponsorship Form
Use the CiNSponsorshipform2015 to collect as much money as you can. Either bring it on the day with the money collected or send the money later to Gina. Details on the form. This year all sailors who raise over £50 will be entered into a drawer for an amazing prize.  Each sailor receives a certificate. There are other prizes up for grabs too. Watch out for the updates.

3. Collecting Pot
If you can’t sail on the day, you can still collect money. The collecting pot labels are for you to attach to a pringles tin. First eat the pringles (the best bit!), colour the picture of pudsey or use the one  already coloured in and stick around the tube. Or even better make up your own picture – we can’t wait to see it on the day. Collect as much money as you can and bring it to the club on the day. If you decide to hold your own cake sale or raise money in an unusual way we would love to hear about it. Please post your story on our Facebook group.

What else is going on?
For those of you who have not been at Children in Need before, it is a great time to visit Salterns.

An array of fun festivities are on offer from 9.00 am. These include scavenger hunt, cake competition and sale and Races throughout the day. Visits from celebrities and RNLI will add to the fun. This year Children in Need is running a dressing up competition so we would all sailors to find the most interesting hat to wear. Prizes for the best.

We will be selling delicious food organised by Birgitta and drinks throughout the daylight hours. Any donations of cakes are very welcome (themed ones are particularly popular). So get creative with your pudsey cakes!

And as usual, the firm favourite: the Silent Auction will be running. We have already been generously donated some amazing adventures and experiences – an apartment in Antigua, England Wembly Tickets and much more besides.  If you have something you are happy to donate whether an item for the tombola or a prize for the auction, please do email Meryl – meryl@thearmitagegroup.co.uk with details.

Bidding opens from 4.30 on Friday and the deadline for bids will be 4.00 pm on Saturday.

Please tell all your friends, family, dog walkers – all are very welcome.

If you have any other exciting ideas of how we could raise more money or if you are able to help on the day with coin counting, food prep please do email Nikki on nikkiandlance@btinernet.com.

Being able to be part of Salterns gives our children a unique experience most children will never have. This event is a fantastic opportunity to get together, enjoy our atmophere to the fullest and in the process raise some money for those children through Children In Need. We hope you will join in.
