Membership And Joining

Any family with a child or children aged between 7 and 15 can join Salterns Sailing Club if there is space.  Salterns Sailing Club requires no previous experience only a desire to learn and enjoy sailing.   All parents are expected to remain on site with their children at all times and help run the club.  The club is run by volunteers.DSC_0344

If you are interested in joining, please come and visit us first (best time is Sundays from 2 to 4 pm between 1st April and end of October –  not August) to find out if the Club is a place you would like to join.  Speak to a Committee Member who will explain how the club works.  All visitors are welcome and guests are allowed to use the facilities  3 times before joining.  Please try to bring your own sailing kit or, at least, a buoyancy aid which fits your child/ren as we do not keep many spares.

Families can join Salterns in the first quarter of the year after their oldest child is 7 (Year 2) or above as long as there is space.  Any sibling over the age of 4 can also participate in the activities at Salterns to learn the very basics of sailing.   Children over 6 can helm boats and will be invited to participate in the more formal training at Moppy Camps and other activities once they are 7 or 8 years old.  The full members have the opportunity to develop their sailing in a variety of boats and when they reach the age of 12 (Year 8) they can put all the experience into action by joining the junior committee and helping to run the club.

With full membership to Salterns, you’ll have access between April to November to the wonderful facilities and use of all the Club boats depending on your sailing experience.  You can also opt in for coaching and other events organised by the Salterns committee.

However, due to lease restrictions there is a limit to the number of families the club can have as full members in any one year.  The Club is currently full so a waiting list is now in operation.  Normally at least 30 families leave the club each year as their children move on with their sailing or are too old and new families can join.  Priority is given to the families with older children who will have less time at Salterns as all members have to leave when they are 16.

NEW FULL MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS

If you would like to join the Salterns waiting list, please download and complete the SSC-New-Member-Application-2016 HERE

Once you have completed the form, please email it to the membership secretary who will send you an acknowledgement so you know it has been received  (contact details are below and on the form itself).  Please note that you cannot join the waiting list until your child is 7 so please do not send in a form before this date.

Each year by March when the renewals process has been completed, the Committee will invite families from the waiting list to join the club in age order.  For 2017, new members have been invited.   The waiting list for consideration for 2017 is now closed (deadline was 5th December 2016) so any applications received now will be added to the waiting list for 2018.  No previous sailing experience is required.

2017 Joining Fee was a one off payment of £60.  A key to the Club require a £10 deposit.  2017 New Full Family Membership Fee was £170 per year.
